Wim Crouwel Lezing door Joana Ozorio de Almeida Meroz: 'Constructing Ideas of Dutch Design'

Today, the notion of ‘Dutch design’ is almost exclusively associated with experimental, open and conceptual design that supposedly embodies and reflects a ‘typically Dutch’ national identity. This lecture explores the emergence of this understanding of Dutch design by historically situating it in terms of transnational, material and political developments.

Joana Ozorio de Almeida Meroz is a lecturer at the Design Cultures department of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. She recently defended her PhD thesis Transnational Material Politics: Constructions of Dutch Design, 1970-2012. Her research focuses on the intersection of design history, new materialism, international cultural politics, and museology.
